Higashi Chaya, Amazing Experience in Time

If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, a visit to Higashi Chaya District is a must. This area is known for its traditional tea houses and its beautiful wooden architecture.

We began our visit by taking a stroll through the streets, admiring the traditional architecture of the tea houses and the beautiful kanji signs.

Wandering through this area of old Kanazawa, with its narrow streets lined with wooden houses and small “squares” surrounded by two-story buildings, it is easy to appreciate the charm of this place.

This was a good place to wander around, it was very peaceful.

The weathering on the wooden buildings is beautiful and it’s great for photo-taking early in the morning.

Restaurants or souvenir craft shops have been converted from many of these buildings today, and if you are lucky, some geisha may be seen along the way.

We wandered through the narrow alleyways and stopped by some of the traditional restaurants. We sampled some of the local delicacies and tried out some of the specialty drinks.

Higashi Chaya Kyukeikan Rest House

It takes three minutes on foot to the bank of the Asano River from the Higashi Chaya District. The Higashi Chaya District and Asano river area are places where you can enjoy strolling and become acquainted with Japanese history and culture.

Our visit to the Higashi Chaya District was a great experience. We were able to experience a bit of traditional Japan and get a glimpse into the lives of the locals. We would definitely recommend a visit to this unique area to anyone interested in traditional Japanese culture.

How to get there

Take a Kanazawa Loop Bus to the Hashibacho bus stop. The bus takes 7 minutes. From the Hashibacho bus stop, the Higashi Chaya area is a 5-minute walk.
