Shinsaibashisuji is a popular shopping district in Osaka which has a long history as a regional center of commerce. The entire area is named after the former Shinsaibashi Bridge which was first built by Shinsai Okada in 1622. This bridge crossed the Nagahorigawa canal and was a popular local landmark until 1964 when the canal was filled in and the bridge was removed.

This roofed arcade runs for 580 meters and contains roughly 180 stores among which you can find major department stores, brand retailers, independent fashion boutiques, tea shops, and cafes. Because of its roof, it is a great location for rainy day shopping.

GU (the same company as Uniqlo)  is one of the most popular fast fashion brands in Japan. Despite of low prices, their quality is the same as UNIQLO and the design is always up-to-date.

We stayed in Osaka for almost a week and visited the area every day, but never managed to reach the very end because it was just too long. You can find all sorts of famous brands here, like Uniqlo, Zara, H&M, Uniqlo, Adidas, GU, Forever 21, etc. plus high-end stores like Hugo Boss, Channel a few blocks away.

Our favorite shops were the Tax-Free pharmacies (if you are a tourist and have your passport with you). There are also Japanese cosmetic stores. You can present your passport for Tax-Free with a minimum purchase amount of 5,000 yen.

We loved the Disney Store very much, super cute and there was a Hello Kitty Store as well!

One of the best cheesecakes in the area. Great service. Although the line can be long sometimes, the crew is very friendly and accommodating.
